GUIDED TOUR OF LA LONJA, THE ALMUDAINA PALACE, THE CATHEDRAL AND BELLVER CASTLE

If you want to learn more about the treasures of Mallorcan Gothic architecture, the dynasty of the kings of Mallorca and the splendour of their reign, or just wander around and enjoy the views, we recommend this private tour to rediscover some of the most emblematic buildings in the city of Palma.

We will visit the Lonja, the former headquarters of the merchandise guild and the ins and outs of its construction by the famous master builder Guillem Sagrera. We will continue through S’hort des rei (the king’s orchard) until we reach the Almudaina palace and explain its origin and function from the outside.

Next, we will visit the Cathedral of Mallorca, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria. This masterpiece of the Levantine Gothic style, known as the cathedral of the sea, also houses an impressive rose window known as “the eye of the Gothic”. Inside, you will feel the amplitude and space as you would never have imagined, the result of several reforms, and in particular, the intervention of Antoni Gaudí and other artists such as Miquel Barceló.

Finally, we will visit Bellver Castle. This impressive castle was built in the 14th century by order of King James II of Mallorca and is one of the few castles in Europe with a circular shape. From the terraces, you will have spectacular views of the bay of Palma and the city.

Finally, our expert guide will take you back to the cruise ship or to your hotel.

This guided tour includes an official guide + private transport (with driver and air conditioning).

THE ROUTE

  • We will come to pick you up at the cruise ship, hotel or accommodation (outside the municipality of Palma there may be a supplement).
  • We head towards s’escollera (bus stop), we go to visit the Almudaina Palace, depending on its opening time, before we do a little tour and explanations until we get there.
  • Then we go to the Almudaina palace through the king’s orchard.
  • Then we go to the Cathedral (we skip the queue) and have a tour of the interior.
  • On leaving the site, we return to the bus stop to go to Bellver Castle.
  • Finally we return to the cruise ship or hotel.
